Why Use Our K-9 Dog Service?

Mercury Investigative Services adopted a K-9 Detection Service in 2008 and has been providing specialised detection services to our client base in Perth WA with great success.

Our services are efficient, affordable and have the ability to remove undesirable behaviour/people from an environment where safety is of utmost concern. By utilising our services, we can expose risks that may have been previously undetected and our clients can make an informed decision on how to deal with our findings.

Our ‘Drug Detection Dogs’ have been carefully selected and trained to be able to work in homes, schools and workplace environments. We have the ability to detect narcotics and explosives/firearms using separate animals.

When our sniffer dogs detects the odour, it is trained to locate it then lets the handler know it’s there by giving the alert signal. This is usually a full passive sit, or a very excited wag of the tail!

HOME SEARCHES

When you need a confidential drug detection service for your home, our narcotic detecting dogs can discreetly perform a thorough inspection of your entire property. Our dogs are trained to locate the odour of drugs so those with concerns about the presence of drugs can deal with the situation appropriately, whatever the findings.  Our K-9 unit can drive in an unmarked vehicle and MIS-K9 handlers can provide advice and referrals to other services when appropriate. We can also conduct our searches in a low impact way.

EDUCATIONAL PREMISES

A drug-free school helps to maintain a drug-free lifestyle.  Our drug sniffer dogs provide detection services in school hallways, lockers, social areas, locker rooms, gyms, parking lots, and student accommodation. Annual contracts, monthly, quarterly or random searches – all can be arranged on an as needed basis or emergency situations. We will create a deterrent service based around your needs and tailor accordingly.

A recent National Drug Strategy Household Survey found that in WA, we had the worst result for drug use among children aged 12-17, with 12.6 per cent trying drugs in the past year.

They also found that 39.2 per cent of people aged 18-19 admitted to having used illicit drugs in the past 12 months, significantly higher than the national average of 25.1 per cent for that age group.

The rates were slightly lower for the 20-29 age group, where 34.9 per cent of respondents had used drugs in the past 12 months, compared with 27.5 per cent nationwide.

COMMERCIAL SEARCHES

Businesses and employers have a legal obligation to make every effort to maintain a drug-free working environment, which presents a challenge at the best of times. While drug testing for hiring and random checks are acceptable practices, drug detection dogs provide a much less invasive method. MIS K-9 Service provides a simple, efficient, facility-wide search that is cost effective and non-disruptive.

By implementing random periodic visits it creates a strong deterrent against anyone selling or using drugs in the work place. We provide inspection in all common areas, lockers and parking lots, as well as warehouses, offices, and desks. If an illegal substance is discovered, the location is highlighted to the appropriate individual for further inspection. Our service creates a program of intervention that can help reduce claims expense and improve workforce productivity.
